Baseball Captures Region XV Title, Looks ahead to East District Tournament
The baseball team is heading to the NJCAA East District Tournament after winning the Region XV title this past weekend. The Hawks defeated Westchester Community College, after being in an early 0-10 hole, by scoring 12 unanswered runs capped off by a 2 run double by freshman catcher Liam Murphy in the bottom of the 8th inning, to secure the title. Earlier in the tournament, Rockland defeated Orange Community College 9-8 with a walk-off 2 run single from sophomore outfielder Alex Exarchakis. The team went 3-0 duing the tournament with each game being just as intense. In game 2 of the tournament freshman infielder and pitcher Chris Villalona tossed 8 scoreless innings before the game was suspended due to darkness, which eventually led to a 2-1 Hawks victory.
The team will head to Scranton, PA to play in the East District Tournament hosted by Lackawanna College. The 4-team tournament will conclude with 1 team advancing to the NJCAA D2 National Championship Tournament in Enid, Oklahoma. The other teams competing in the district tournament are Lackawanna College, Mercer County College and Uconn Avery Point. The tounament will begin on Friday, May 17th and conclude on Sunday, May 19th. Go Hawks!
