RCC Volleyball Players Earn Region and Conference Accolades
The Rockland Community College (RCC) volleyball program continues to shine, with several team members earning prestigious accolades for their outstanding performance during the 2024 season.
Freshman Alexis Smernoff delivered an exceptional season, earning her recognition as a standout player in multiple categories. Smernoff was named to the All-Region XV Second Team, acknowledging her skill and impact at the regional level. In addition, she was honored as Co-Player of the Year for the Mid-Hudson Conference, a testament to her leadership, versatility, and consistent excellence throughout the season.
Adding to the team's accomplishments, Mikayla Strammiello and teammate Ananda Marshall were also named to the All-Conference Team, highlighting their vital contributions to RCC's success on the court.
The honors extended beyond athletic skill, as RCC's commitment to sportsmanship and integrity was also recognized. Sophomore Desire George earned a spot on the Region XV All-Sportsmanship Team, demonstrating exemplary conduct and respect for the game.
"These awards are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes," said RCC Athletic Director Ed Bajor. "Alexis, Mikayla, Ananda, and Desire exemplify the values we uphold at RCC both on and off the court. We're incredibly proud of their achievements and the positive impact they've had on our program."
First year Head Coach Joan Shurman added, "I couldn't be more proud of my girl's accomplishments. All their dedications to the sport and our team paid off. I can't think of any group more deserving"
