Volleyball Team Qualifies for National Championships for 1st Time in RCC History
The Rockland Lady Hawks are headed to Rochester, Minnesota to compete in the 2021 NJCAA DIII Volleyball National Championships. On Saturday, Rockland earned a spot with a 3-0 win over Community College of Rhode Island in the Northeast District Tournament in Bayside, NY to guarantee themselves a trip to Minnesota. Two teams from Region 15 qualified. The Hawks became Northeast District B Champs, while host Queensborough College qualified as Northeast District A Champs with a 3-1 win over Rockland in the final match-up of the day on Saturday, which will give Queensborogh a higher seed at the Nationals. The National Championships will be played at the Rochester Regional Sports Center and will feature 12 teams from around the country. The seeding and bracket information for the tournament will be announced on Tuesday, November 2nd.
During Saturday's win, Rockland displayed a full team effort to defeat the Region 21 champion Knights of Community College of Rhode Island. Region award winners Brianna Almonte and Gabrielle Faulcon led the way for Rockland each with 15 kills during the match. Kendra Faulcon led both team in asissts with 27. After Saturday's District Tournament, the Lady Hawks season record now stands at 15-6. By earning a spot at Nationals, 1st year Head Coach Sara Hayward has led Rockland to it's most successfull season in school history.
