Volleyball Team Wins Mid-Hudson Conference Title in Thrilling Fashion
The RCC Volleyball team defeated Ulster Community College in a 5 set battle in the tournament semi-final followed by a 4 set win over #1 seeded Dutchess Community College in the championship game to earn their first Mid-Hudson Conference title since 2017. In the semi-final, the Hawks found themselves in a 0-2 hole after dropping the first 2 sets to Ulster; 25-23 and 25-22. After falling behind in the 3rd set, Rockland clawed it's way back to win the 3rd and 4th sets to push the match to the 5th and deciding set. The team never trailed in the 5th set and went on to win, 15-9, earning the Hawks a place in the Conference Finals against Dutchess Community College who had won their semi-final matchup over Westchester Community College, 3-0.
In the Championship match-up, Dutchess got off to a strong start winning the first set over Rockland. Even after a marathon semi-final match against Ulster and 1st set loss to Dutchess, the Hawks did not show signs of fatigue. Rockland won the 2nd set and carried their momentum to win the 3rd and 4th sets, earning the 2021 Mid-Hudson Conference Championship. The win over Dutchess marks their first win over the Falcons this season after losing 2 regular season contests against them.
Rockland now turns its attention to the Region XV Playoffs when the Hawks host the Westchester Vikings on Thursday night at 7:00pm in the quarterfinals.
